BUSINESSES and individuals are responding to a New Mill couple's appeal for help to aid deaf orphans in Sri Lanka.

Paul and Lynn Stothart have travelled to the country over the last 15 years and have become involved in helping people living in an area 20 minutes from the capital, Colombo.

They have built a house for a family for £130 and now want to help an orphanage in an area called Negombo, which looks after deaf children.

Mr Stothart - who has links with Holmfirth Rotary Club and not Holmfirth Round Table as stated in last week's feature - has already had offers for help.

He said: "A pub is organising a raffle and we've also had businesses and individuals interested in helping."

The couple are going out to Sri Lanka at the end of April to assess what needs doing in the orphanage and to crack on with getting jobs done using the money donated by kind-hearted Huddersfield people.

He will report back on how the orphanage and lives of the youngsters who live there has been improved.

To help, ring Mr Stothart on 01484 686200.
