OPERATION Christmas Child wants volunteers to help prepare for this year's shoe box project.

More than 1,300 shoeboxes filled with toys and goodies left Meltham for Belarus to help needy children last year.

A team of 200 volunteers helped to prepare the boxes for dispatch, and dozens of local churches and schools were also involved.

Once again this year, the boxes are going to eastern European countries.

Volunteers are needed to collect items such as hats, gloves, scarves, stationery, small soft toys and games and toiletries.

And they are welcome to attend meetings held at the Crossroads Centre on Huddersfield Road in Meltham.

People already collecting can take items along to be stored.

Operation Christmas Child is also appealing for donations from local businesses.
