A GROUP which helps people who may be thinking of suicide is promoting its work as part of a national campaign.

Huddersfield Samaritans are taking part in 24/7 Day on Sunday.

The event aims to highlight the "open all hours" approach which the branch offers to people who are feeling distressed or in despair.

Pauline Rawlinson, director of Huddersfield Samaritans, said: "We offer confidential, emotional support for people experiencing feelings of distress and despair, including those that may lead to suicide."

Mrs Rawlinson said the Huddersfield office at 14 New North Parade had a phone line manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The office is open for callers between 10am and 10pm.

The Samaritans nationally celebrated their 50th anniversary last year. The Huddersfield branch has been going for 20 years and has 60 volunteers.
