NEIGHBOURS went to rescue a man after his home caught fire.

A resident of School Lane, Dewsbury Moor, called Dewsbury firefighters at 2.30pm on Saturday after spotting smoke coming from the house.

When firefighters arrived, five or six neighbours had broken into the house and tried to put the fire out.

They had laid the occupant, described by firefighters as a middle-aged man, on the sofa. He was unhurt.

The fire was confined to the kitchen and its cause is being investigated.

One of the neighbours was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Another man suffered cuts to his hands.

HUDDERSFIELD firefighters dealt with a blazing caravan at 12.55pm on Saturday. The fire was in a field off Ashbrow Road, Sheepridge. Firefighters found the derelict caravan was well alight. Due to firefighters' problems getting access to the field, the blaze left only the chassis. Arson is suspected.
