A NETHERTHONG girl is celebrating after being placed in the top five marks in the country for GCSE German.

But Tanya Addy, 16, will be dropping the subject when she does her A- levels. She will concentrate on science and maths as she pursues her ambition to become a vet.

Tanya, who lives with her mum Karen, 42, dad Brian, 41, and brother Jon, 14, will study A-levels at Greenhead College in Huddersfield.

Tanya gained an amazing 11-and-a-half A* grades after taking her GCSEs at Holmfirth High School.

There was also joy for fellow Holmfirth High pupil Kieran Hodgson, who was in the top five marks in the country for French.

Ten or more A* or A grades were achieved by Tanya, Kieran and eight other pupils - Gemma Rishton, Katie Childs, Sarah Hellawell, Sarah Hodgson, Fran Roberts, Anna Manby, Emmy Topp and William Lawson.
