FIVE Holmfirth High School teachers will be pounding the streets in aid of charity when they compete in the Great North Run on Sunday.

Head of drama Chris Deering and head of history Steve Beardsell are among those tackling the 13-mile course. They will be joined by head of English Tim Stringer, maths teacher Shaun Mabey and history teacher Michael Lamb.

Three good causes will benefit from their efforts - Overcome (ovarian cancer), Breakthrough (breast cancer) and leukaemia research.

The five teachers will be alongside 47,000 other runners on the route from Newcastle to South Shields.

Other runners include a Brighouse woman who had a mastectomy in 2001.

Wendy Bentley, of Hove Edge, hopes to raise £2,000 for the Breast Cancer Campaign.
