Monday morning commuters have been facing high winds and heavy rain on their way to work.

The conditions are causing traffic delays all over the place with several warnings in place.

On the M62 eastbound there is very slow traffic and traffic heavier than normal between J25 (Brighouse) and J27 M621 (Gildersome).

There are also strong winds on M62 between J24 A629 (Ainley Top) and J21 A640 (Milnrow). The matrix signs are set to 40 mph.

Warning are in place due to hazardous driving conditions due to surface water on M62 Eastbound between J21 (Milnrow) and J22 (Rishworth Moor).

In Batley, Wellington Street is closed in both directions due to a burst water main between Field Lane / Victoria Avenue and Wood Street.

There are also reports of the M1 Northbound being blocked, with queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident at J42 M62 (Lofthouse). It is affecting traffic heading towards Leeds.

The wild weather is expected to continue into the afternoon before easing off until Wednesday.

A deepening area of low pressure is expected to track across the UK during Wednesday and into Thursday. Yorkshire is to the south of this system and gales or severe gales are expected to develop.

Wind gusts of 50-60 mph are likely quite widely through the warning area.

A year ago heavy winds brough chaos to our area with serious motorway accidents, felled tree and the roof ripped from a swimming pool in Salendine Nook.
