We're all behind Hinchliffe’s!

That was the overwhelming response from local residents who viewed Hinchliffe Farm’s plans for the extensive re-build project – almost three years after their Netherton headquarters was destroyed by fire.

The public exhibition was held at the site in Netherton Moor Road, Netherton and showed plans including a 120-cover restaurant, a new shop and a function room.

Simon Hirst, of Hinchliffe’s, said: “Everybody who has come along seems really pleased. As a community Netherton is really behind us and the surrounding villages.”

Speaking of the design, he added: “People have been positive. It is using a lot of local material and making the best of the views of Castle Hill.”

And residents told how impressed they were with how the business, which has been in Netherton for well over a century, had managed to get a shop open on the site within three days after the disastrous fire.

Farm staff then opened a restaurant in a small marquee within weeks and moved into the current permanent marquee in December 2010.

Visiting the exhibition was Hazel Thompson, 60, of Upperthong, who said: “It’s aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the surroundings.

“When we heard about the fire we were thinking, ‘what will they do now’, but they have done really well and we are delighted they are in a position to unveil plans.

“Fingers crossed the plans are approved!”

Clr Carole Pattison, Crosland Moor and Netherton ward councillor, said: “It’s been a long time since the fire and we’re all behind Hinchliffe’s plans for the future.”

Margaret Ellam, of Netherton Moor Road, added: “I am a regular customer of Hinchliffe’s because it is so convenient and the quality is there.

“They have done well with the marquee but the new buildings will see the site rise from the ashes.”

It is anticipated the plans for the site will be submitted next month and if approved, the building work will start in December.

If that goes to plan the build will be completed by November 2014.
