A COUPLE who met while enjoying a jaunt at the seaside have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Farmer’s son Alwyn Rowbottom met Marjorie Burton while on a day out in Blackpool.
Marjorie had been with her work friends from the cinema she worked at in Lockwood, when she gave Alwyn her address.
And soon enough he came to Huddersfield to visit her.
The couple were married at Rashcliffe Parish Church, (St Stephens) on October 6 1951 and celebrated their reception at the Bath Hotel, in Lockwood.
Alwyn began his career at John Hague’s Engineering before he went to the sales office at Don International.
After being made redundant he went to Holmfirth Police Station where he worked as a driver and handy-man before retiring.
Marjorie worked in catering before moving to C&A fashions, on New Street.
The couple, who are very keen walkers, have one daughter Sandra, who is now 58.
They celebrated their anniversary at the Durker Roods Hotel, Meltham, with 40 friends and family.
