A FESTIVAL of wartime nostalgia returns this weekend.

The Meltham Memories weekend will see three days of 1940s military-themed and family fun events.

Last year’s event attracted hundreds of revellers with many wearing retro-military uniforms.

This year, war time spirit will be rekindled with a cavalcade of vintage vehicles, characters in period uniforms and swing-era music.

The fun starts on Friday with a dance at St Bartholomew’s Parish Church Hall, with The Swing Commanders. On Saturday the Meltham Memories parade will start from Durker Roods Hotel at 12.30pm while in the centre there will be stalls..

Meltham and Meltham Mills Brass Band and Oldham Scottish Pipe Band will be performing as will the Yorkshire Gunners Artillery Regiment.

Sunday starts with a 1940s themed church service at St Bartholomew’s at 10.30am before historical re-enactment groups at Broadlands Rec. The weekend will conclude with the ‘All Clear’ being sounded outside The Waggon and Horses and the lowering of the Union Jack at 6pm.
