Floral tributes have been left at the scene of a four-vehicle crash which claimed the life of a teenager.

They have been left on grass verges and a fence at the scene of Sunday afternoon’s pile-up in Greenfield Road, three miles out of Holmfirth.

The teenager who died has not been named by police but has been named locally as Sami Achour, 17, of Diggle.

One tribute left at the scene read: “Rest in peace, you are in a better place. You will always be in our thoughts. Your mum will be looked after”.

Another said: “RIP Sami. Gone but never forgotten”.

He was a passenger in a VW Polo which was in collision with three other vehicles on the A635 on Sunday afternoon.

West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team are investigating the tragedy and officers have appealed for anyone who saw or has information about the four vehicle collision to contact them.

The Polo, a Fiat 500 and a Toyota Hiace were all heading towards Holmfirth, while an Audi A3 was heading towards Oldham.

The Polo ended up in a ditch at the side of the undulating road.

It is believed the incident occurred after the Polo was in collision with the Audi while overtaking.

Fire crews were called to the scene to free a driver trapped in the Toyota and two Air Ambulances ferried the seriously injured to hospital.

The 17-year-old female driver of the Polo is detained in Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries, as a 36-year-old man who was driving the Audi.

Police arrested the 18-year-old female driver of the Fiat on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has been released on bail.

Police urged anyone with information to contact them via 101.
