A WASHING line of underpants and bloomers will be strung across the River Holme to celebrate Fair Trade Fortnight.
Holmfirth Fair Traders Co-operative will connect a bunting of fair trade underpants from the Fair Traders’ Co-operative shop, at Huddersfield Road, across the river today.
The event takes place as part of Fair Trade Fortnight from February 28 to March 13 to celebrate the positive impact of fair trade around the world.
The bunting will later be sewn to other buntings from other fair trade events around the country in a record breaking attempt.
The co-operative will also be selling fair trade bags designed and signed by celebrities including Joanna Lumley, Mirfield-born film star Patrick Stewart, David Cameron, Fearne Cotton and Meltham poet and TV presenter Simon Armitage.
Monica Norley, co-founder of leading ethical body care company Visionary Soap, is also due to attend today.
