Crowds enjoyed a weekend of music and dance at the 10th annual Holmfirth Folk Festival.

No fewer than 25 dance groups took part in the event, including locally-based morris dancers Thieving Magpie, Slubbing Billy’s North West Morris and Spiral Maypole Dancers.

Others included groups from Nottingham, Sheffield, Warrington, Stockport, High Peak in Derbyshire and even from Canada.

Among the colourful sights and sounds, visitors couldn’t fail to miss two giant figures – originally commissioned by Sheffield City Council for the Sheffield Festival and now in the “custody” of Sheffield City Morris Men.

More than 20 national and regional musical acts included acoustic act Elbow Jane, Brighouse’s Roger Davies and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Sam Kelly.

Holmfirth Picturedrome was the venue for yet more varied musical entertainment with former Fairground Attraction singer Eddi Reader, Hackney Colliery Band and acoustic duo Michelle Plum and Nick Nall among the acts.

The festival was complemented by activities for children, including story-telling, music making and junior open mics as well as workshops and ceilidhs.
