Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival will be the biggest yet.

This morning 78 stalls laden with produce will take over the town centre from 10am tomorrow (Saturday) for a two day foodie extravaganza.

Thousands of people are expected to visit the two day event to sample local traders delicacies that will include everything from Russian pies and Malaysian curries to Yorkshire puddings.

Towngate, Victoria Street Bridge, Hollowgate and the Old Bridge and Library car parks will all be closed off to cars to make way for 49 stalls.

Another 29 will be open in the market hall on Huddersfield Road.

It is the 11th such event of its kind.

Festival director Jamie Waters said: “It’s shaping up really well and we look like we’re in for some good weather on Saturday.

“With the number of stall we have, this year will be our biggest yet. It’s set to be a busy weekend.

“We will have a mix of produce from around the world but we try to keep the traders as local as possible.”

This year, a big push has been made to do more catering for those with special diets.

Jamie added: “Thirteen vendors will be selling gluten free food, 12 will have vegetarian options and another 12 will be able to cater for vegans.

“We have done our best to ensure there will be something for everyone.”

Jamie put out a last minute call for volunteers.

“We have 18 at the moment but would welcome more”, he said.

“If anyone would like to help out, they can get in touch via our website or via our Facebook page and could help out on just one day if they like.”

Stalls on Towngate will stay open until 8pm on Saturday.

Stalls in other locations and all on Sunday will serve until 6pm.

Dozens of performers will keep the crowds entertained with singer Den Miller kicking off the proceedings at 10.30am by the Old Bridge pub and The Picturedrome.

Other acts booked include the Frumptarn Guggenband, The Flatulator mobile performer and Krafty Devilz Circus Skills.

A birds of prey demonstration will take place in Holmeside Gardens, alongside face painting.

In addition to the car park closures at Old Bridge and the library, some spaces will be unavailable in Crown Bottom car park and on Huddersfield Road.
