A missing husky was reunited with her worried owner after her disappearance sparked a huge Facebook appeal.

Holmfirth hound Roxy made off on an adventure of her own and made a pack of new friends after wandering off from owner David Milne’s friend’s Golcar home last Friday.

Father-of-two David became worried when he realised she had escaped from friend Becky Simpson’s back yard.

The two-year-old husky is unchipped, and careworker David worried she might become lost.

But a Facebook campaign was launched within hours of her disappearance, after she was picked up by locals and taken to Pets At Home on Leeds Road, Huddersfield

David, 31, of Holmfirth, said: “I had gone to my friend’s to fit a TV and put her out in the yard.

“She’s such a free spirit and I usually walk her off the lead, so she would have thought nothing about wandering off to explore.

“I’ve had her since she was a puppy, so obviously I was very anxious to find her.

“We looked everywhere.”

Pets At Home started a Facebook appeal to find Roxy’s owners after she was taken into the store, while David’s friends Becky and Anna Witter launched a similar social network campaign to find her.

“There were two campaigns going on at the same time”, said David.

“I got about five phone calls within an hour from people saying they’d seen Roxy on the internet.”

The picture of Roxy was viewed by 14,000 people and shared more than 30 times while she stayed with her finders.

Roxy was reunited with her owner the same weekend.

David said: “I’m so glad to have her home again.

“Roxy is so chilled out and relaxed and is not an attention-craving dog at all.

“She is used to having her freedom.

“She seems to have made friends with other dogs along the way, so now we’re arranging to go dog walking together.

“It’s all come to a happy ending.”

Mark Hudson from Pets At Home said: “We decided to put the pictures of Roxy out there to see if anyone in Huddersfield recognised her and could put her in touch with the owner.

“Had she been microchipped it would have been easy to scan her and find her owner.

“Thanks to Facebook, we were able to reunite her with Mr Milne.”
