POSTAL services are back to normal in Holmfirth, say Royal Mail.

People in some areas of the Holme Valley have been reporting delayed or missing deliveries in recent weeks.

There have also been claims of a backlog of mail at the Holmfirth sorting office.

It was alleged that the office was under-staffed and workers were struggling to cope with a new delivery system.

But Royal Mail denied the new system was to blame.

A spokeswoman said there had been delays with mail deliveries because the office had been hit by unusually high levels of mail, plus a large number of staff off sick.

Also, an electrical fire meant some sorting and mail preparation had to take place elsewhere.

Royal Mail now says the delivery problems are solved.

The spokeswoman said only a few parcels had remained from the backlog and these had all been delivered.
