A PLAN for a wind turbine in Scholes will be decided by Kirklees councillors.

Stuart Waterhouse, of Shaley Farm, has applied for planning permission for the 24.6m turbine.

Council planning officers have recommended councillors approve the application, when it goes before them at 1pm tomorrow at Huddersfield Town Hall.

A council report shows the wind turbine will be 800 metres away from Scholes village and is earmarked for land within the greenbelt.

Nine letters of objection were submitted, with concerns relating to potential noise nuisance, the impact on the scenery, highways risks, impact on tourism and fear it will frighten livestock and wildlife.

There was also the fear it could post a safety risk due to mechanical failure or ice throw.

Holme Valley Parish Council has supported the application.
