A CONCERNED shopper led to a woman being arrested for drink driving.

Jennifer Hartley, of Matthew Grove in Holmfirth, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The 23-year-old admitted driving drunk on Damside Road, Primrose Hill, on February 1.

District Judge David Scanlon heard that just before 3pm police had been contacted by a member of the public.

Carole Lawford, prosecuting, said that the woman had been at Tesco in Dalton and seen Hartley sitting in her car drinking a can of Strongbow.

She alerted police because she was concerned that she was going to drive.

Officers then followed Hartley’s Peugeot 106 and caused the vehicle to stop.

Hartley fell out of the car and had slurred speech.

A roadside breath test showed that she had 90 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

A further test at the police station revealed a lower reading of 73mg – the legal limit is 35mg.

Hartley, who had no previous convictions, said she had been experiencing personal difficulties.

Judge Scanlon was ordered to pay £85 fine, £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

She was also banned from driving for 18 months.
