A HOTEL and wedding venue wants changes to its licence.

But neighbours are not happy about it and hope to persuade Calderdale councillors to reject it.

The Rock at Holywell Green was saved from closure earlier this year but some customers lost money when its former manager left.

It remained open under different managers who now want alterations to its licence.

Enterprise Inns, who own the venue, wants to sell alcohol to guests 24 hours a day and be allowed to open until 1.30am.

They also want to be able to play music until 1am, instead of midnight.

Some neighbours have objected. One of them, David Culpan, says there have been disturbances at the hotel recently.

He said the villagers have seen fighting and people jumping on cars from guests at one recent party and police had to be called.

The party was for a teenager’s 16th birthday which was supervised by parents.

He said correspondence with The Rock was ignored.

Fifteen other neighbours have also objected. They say 1am is too late for noise disturbance in what is a quiet area.

They also claim people have been drinking outside beyond 10pm, which the current licence restricts.

Earlier this year saw a turbulent 15 weeks where staff went without pay for some weeks and guests had dinner bookings cancelled without a refund.

The application will be considered at 2pm on Thursday at Halifax Town Hall.
