Homes evacuated after van crashes into gas mains in Emley

Westfield Lane is currently blocked in between Jagger Lane and Lenacre Lane

Homes have been evacuated after a van crashed into a gas main.

Several homes on Westfield Lane in Emley have been emptied this morning as a precautionary measure by Northern Gas Network while staff work to repair the damage done when this white Citroen Berlingo panel van ploughed into the structure.

The residents have been offered shelter in nearby Emley Methodist Church.

The stretch of road between Jagger Lane and Lenacre Lane has also been closed to traffic, causing long tailbacks.

According to West Yorkshire Police, the van crashed at 7.07am this morning after it veered off the road and hit the gas main.

Fortunately, no-one was hurt in the incident.

Two fire crews from Huddersfield and Skelmanthorpe are currently at the scene recovering the vehicles.
