PLANS to build houses on a sports club's land have won approval, despite protests by neighbours.

Thirty-nine people objected to the scheme for up to five houses on Huddersfield YMCA land off Rafborn Avenue, Salendine Nook.

They were worried about the impact on the environment, wildlife and trees.

Kirklees councillors gave the green light at an area planning committee.

The meeting was told that money from the development would help to pay for new changing rooms at the Laund Hill sports complex.
