A DENTIST raised a whopping £2,500 for a hospice by pedalling his way to John O’Groats.

But Mark Tyzzer-Smith told the Examiner he couldn’t have done it without the help of his generous patients at Honley Dental Surgery.

The award-winning dentist raised the cash for Kirkwood Hospice.

Mark, from Middlestown near Wakefield, said: “It costs around £10,800 a day to run Kirkwood Hospice – which is a huge amount of money.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to all my patients who sponsored me.

“It’s an amazing thing – especially during the credit crunch.”

Mark was joined by friends Tony Clark and Bob Butler for the 576 mile bike ride.

After a night in the pub and a few drinks the friends decided to do the gruelling bike ride for their chosen charities.

Mark said: “It was hard work but lots of fun.

“We’re probably going to do another one next year – we’ve started a bit of a cycling craze in the village so there will be more of us next year hopefully.”
