A young farmer fears for the health of his cattle because of thoughtless fly-tippers.

Josh Turner, 26, who runs Oldfield Road Farm in Honley, believes drivers dumping rubbish could put his animals’ lives at risk.

Josh, a fourth generation farmer, has been plagued by rubbish dumped into his field in Cross Lane.

He has been left angry by the amount of fast food and drink cartons dumped.

But now has come the final straw – when fly-tippers dumped a three-piece suite on his land.

Josh, who runs the farm in partnership with his dad Andrew and grandad Edward, said it was the food waste and wrappers that was the problem for his livestock, particularly young calves.

“Cows will try to eat anything like cans and plastic and could easily choke to death,” he said.

“People are just being thoughtless. If they can bother to bring their rubbish up here, they can be bothered to take it home.”

Josh said drivers pulled into a passing place on the lane and threw their rubbish into the field.

Every few days he had to clear up the mess.

“It is getting to be more than a nuisance now,” said Josh.

“When I found that the sofa and chairs had been dumped I had had enough.

“I just want to make people aware of the potential danger they are causing.”
