Two music lovers have come together to blow the horn for a top brass contest.

Trombonist Mick Rath, of Honley’s Michael Rath Trombones has become the latest sponsor of Alex Bray’s Brass Factor, after being impressed with the talent show competition last year.

Alex, 25, set up the contest in 2010 in Holmfirth as a university project but it grew in popularity so now events are run at The Picturedrome and at The Engine Shed in Wetherby.

Mick, who has been running his business for 23 years, said: “We both love music and brass bands and want to encourage young people everywhere to fulfil their dream of playing an instrument and making music.

“My company likes to support local events and give something back to the local community and sponsoring Brass Factor is a great way of doing this. It really is an entertaining evening.”

Alex hopes to hold three Brass Factor events next year and take the contest countrywide in the next few years.

He said: “I am thrilled Mick and his company has come on board in time for our fifth anniversary.

“It is going to be the biggest and best Brass Factor to date. We have got some wonderful sponsors who are all proud to support a great Yorkshire tradition.”

The events will take place at The Engine Shed, Wetherby, on October 31 and on November 14 at The Holmfirth Picturedrome.

Tickets cost £12 and are available from Andrews Green Grocers, Holmfirth. For more details visit www.brassfactor.com
