John Murgatroyd was invested as the choir's new president at a dinner at Meltham Golf Club.

Mr Murgatroyd used to be manager at Kirkwood Hospice, Dalton, but is now retired.

His first task as president was to present life memberships to two of the choir's longest-serving members, Muriel Horsfall and Doreen Scholes.

Long-service awards were also presented to Avril Fenwick, Joan Clegg, Janice Wills, Denise Winterbottom and Margaret Vause.

Some of the older long- serving members will be sharing their memories of the 1940s for the 56-strong choir's next production.

This will be two 1940s- themed cabaret shows at Holmbridge Parish Hall on June 16 and 17.

The choir will be singing and the Huddersfield University Big Band will be providing swing music.

Prizes will be given for the best 1940s costumes.

Tickets cost £10, including supper.

They are available from Hilary Scholes on 01484 307189.
