A NAVY captain has been promoted to second-in-command at a training college.

Captain Steven Greenwood from Honley is now director of support at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering Cosford.

The 53-year-old deputy commandant oversees some 4,000 staff and students at the college which trains students for the frontline.

Capt Greenwood first joined the Navy as a trainee mechanical engineer back in 1975 and progressed through the ranks.

The father-of-two said: “If I had the opportunity, I’d do it all again.

“The Fleet Air Arm has provided me with fantastic opportunities for education and training, travel and fun.

“It’s been a terrific privilege and I would recommend a career in the Royal Navy to anyone who feels they can live up to the challenge.”

Capt Greenwood lives in Shropshire with wife Anne, a nurse.

The former Holme Valley Grammar School pupil often comes back to Huddersfield to visit his parents Wilfred and Olwen, who live in Netherton.
