A village post office is getting a revamp as it closes its doors.

Honley Post Office will open as a new local-style Post Office at the Nisa Local store, 13-15 Westgate.

It is the latest in a series of changes affecting post offices in the Huddersfield area.

Many traditional offices are closing and new branches opening up in convenience stores.

The Honley service, which launches at 1pm on Friday, October 24, will be provided from a Post Office terminal at the retail till available during shop opening hours. The branch will be open from 7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 10pm on Sunday – an extra 57 hours a week.

Customers will be able to access the full range of Post Office and mail services, including international parcels, Special Delivery, Local Collect and home shopping returns.

Customers for the majority of UK banks can use their post office for online banking cash deposits and withdrawals and bill payments.

Post Office regional network manager Adrian Wales said: “We know how important Post Office services are to residents in Honley and we are confident that this vibrant modern Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular.

“The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy through to the end of the decade.”

The move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.
