TYKES have won a special honour.
The Yorkshire Society has received royal patronage.
After almost 25 years of promoting the merits of Yorkshire, the society has confirmed the Duke of York is now its patron. The confirmation came after two years of waiting and a society spokesman said they were happy and relieved to see it happen.
Yorkshire Society chairman Keith Madeley said: "Gaining royal patronage is excellent news. We feel particularly honoured and encouraged."
Anyone can become involved with the society, promoting anything about Yorkshire.
Although paid membership is available, the society is a non-profit group. The money it raises goes back out into the community.
Trevor Greenwood, publicity manager for the society, said: "From culture to heritage, technology to business, we are here to promote everything Yorkshire."
Next year will see jubilee celebrations for the group and there are plans for the Duke of York to attend.
