A GROUP of horse riders are planning a 50- mile charity trek.

Huddersfield-based riders and their supporters - about 30 people in all - are set to tackle part of the Pennine Bridleway over three days.

The fundraising effort will begin on Saturday, with riders setting off from Burnley.

They will follow a circular route which also takes them through Hebden Bridge and Rochdale.

They will be raising extra cash with a charity night at the Royal Hotel in Bacup, Lancashire, on Sunday.

Organiser Jane Fowden, of Meltham, said: "There will be about 12 horse riders, with cyclists and a support crew."

The trek will raise cash for Holme Valley MS and Neuro Group.

The group provides information and guidance and access to therapies such as yoga and tai chi for people with multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions.

It also arranges outings and holds weekly meetings in the Linden Unit of Holmfirth's Holme Valley Memorial Hospital and monthly meetings at the Barton Unit, St Luke's Hospital, Crosland Moor.

The group was formed in 1999 and is run by volunteers.
