A CHOIR is to host a fundraising concert at Elland.

The Overgate Hospice Choir, based at Hullen Edge near Elland, are holding a brass and voices concert on April 22 at All Saints' Church.

The choir, which was founded in 1991 solely to support the hospice, will be joined by special guests.

They include the Sellers International Band, cornet player Philip McCann and organist David Houlder.

The concert, which starts at 7pm, will be the world premiere of a new work by composer Derek Bourgeois.

His piece, entitled Young Lochinvar, translates Walter Scott's dramatic ballad into music.

The published score of the work has been rapturously received by reviewers.

The composer allowed the premiere as he is a friend of Overgate Choir member Brett Woodward.

The concert is the second in a series of musical fundraising events this year.

The first was a sell-out concert entitled Hymnsing in Brighouse in March.

On September 23, the choir will be backed by a full symphony orchestra for Verdi's Requiem at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax.

The final event will be a Christmas carol performance by Sellers International Band at Halifax Parish Church.
