KIRKWOOD Hospice is celebrating a cash boost, thanks to the Examiner.

A total of £1,116 was raised for the hospice when the Examiner ran a special supplement to mark the charity's 20th anniversary.

The feature charted the history of the Dalton hospice, which provides specialist care for people in Kirklees facing life-threatening illness.

Local companies were asked to sponsor the supplement and 20% of the profits were given to the charity.

Examiner field sales account manager Maureen Clark said: "We often do this for different charities.

"It's good news for Kirkwood and it's nice to give them the money."

Kirkwood fundraising and marketing manager Garry Wilkinson said he was delighted to receive the cash, which will go towards the hospice's general funds.

He added: "It's great that the Examiner has done this for us."

The hospice is busy getting ready for its 20th anniversary celebrations and has got a number of special events planned.

Highlights will include a Midnight Memory Walk on June 23. This will be a sponsored 10-mile walk in which anyone can take part.

The hospice is also holding a special 20th anniversary ball at the Galpharm Stadium in June.
