HOSPITAL bosses say they are making progress on tackling their priorities.

The Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust had six priorities for improvement in the last year.

They were: cutting the number of pressure ulcers among patients; reducing hospital infections such as MRSA and C Diff; reducing avoidable re-admissions; more dementia screening for eligible patients; improving doctors’ communications and boosting information on discharge.

Jan Freer, director of organisational development, told the Trust’s Membership Council that progress had been made in all areas but added: “With all the priorities there’s still a way to go.

“We did not choose them because they were easy. We chose them because they are important.”

The membership council was asked for its priorities for the next year.

New suggestions include: hospital falls, strokes, length of hospital stays and improving care for the dying.

Members will meet next month to decide the new priorities.

New parking charges at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital came into force on January 2.

The rise, the first since 2005, saw the charges go up from £1.50 to £2 for two hours and from £2.50 to £3.70 for up to four hours.

Free parking is allowed for up to 45 minutes, up from 30 minutes.
