HOLME VALLEY women will no longer have to travel across town for hospital appointments, thanks to a new service.
A gynaecology clinic is being set up at Holme Valley Memorial Hospital in Holmfirth so patients can see their consultant and undergo minor procedures closer to home
Consultant gynaecologist Mr James Campbell will hold the clinic once a fortnight.
Coil insertion, polyp removal and hormone implants will be among the procedures carried out.
Mr Campbell said: “We have received many positive comments about the new clinics.
“Women have told us they find coming to the Memorial Hospital is convenient and far less stressful than attending a busy hospital.”
The community hospital already provides a range of health services and minor operations.
These include podiatry, colposcopy, plastic surgery, neurology, day surgery, mental health and long-term care.
Mr Martin DeBono, clinical director for the children and women’s division at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The provision of gynaecology outpatient clinics at the Memorial Hospital represents the commitment of this trust, Kirklees Primary Care Trust and Calderdale Primary Care Trusts to extending the range of services offered in community settings.
“This is an excellent service development.”
Louise Fell, of Holmfirth, attended the clinic recently.
She said: “It is ideal as it is close to home and the staff are caring and friendly.”
