The most deprived parts of Kirklees have been revealed in new government data.

More than 32,000 postcodes across England have been ranked with a community near Clacton on Sea in Essex at the bottom of the pile.

But the majority of deprived areas are in the north – Middlesbrough, Knowsley, Hull, Liverpool and Manchester.

The official report shows three of Kirklees’ most deprived areas are in Dewsbury, while two are in Huddersfield.

The two towns have one area each in the 1,000 most deprived in England.

The Beckett Lane and Burgh Mill Lane area of Dewsbury Moor were the most deprived in Kirklees and ranked 672nd worst in the country.

The Alder Street, Abbey Road and Red Doles Road area in Hillhouse was the worst in Huddersfield and was 738th worst in England.

Overall Kirklees does not appear in the 30 most deprived local authorities in England.

Meanwhile, Kirklees’ least deprived areas are all in the suburbs or the borough’s semi-rural villages.

The area ranked as the least deprived in Kirklees is not its richest part as the rankings are more complicated than simple measures of wealth.

The data shows the streets around Marten Drive and Osprey Dive in Netherton are the least deprived overall.

The next best are Church Lane and Blake Hall Road, Mirfield; Station Road, Clough Way and Rowley Hill in Fenay Bridge; the west side of Kirkburton and the Park Avenue area of Shelley.

Overall Calderdale (59th) is ranked as more deprived than Kirklees (95th).
