PEOPLE interested in a career in building are invited to a free event to find out more.

The event is being organised by Pathway into Construction (PiC), part of Kirklees Council's Economic Development Service.

It will take place at 2pm next Monday at Business Link, Croft Myl, West Parade, Halifax.

The PiC scheme is open to anyone over 16 living in Kirklees or Calderdale and who has been unemployed for over six months.

The scheme offers the opportunity to gain skills in building through a 12- week training programme.

Trainees also gain certificates in health and safety, manual handling and first aid.

Tools, equipment and safety boots are provided and help is available for travel expenses to and from the training centre and child care costs.

The training is delivered in partnership with Build, a Kirklees scheme supporting the building industry and paid for by JobCentre Plus.

Clr Andrew Pinnock, the council Cabinet member responsible for development services, said: "PiC has already helped a number of local people develop key skills, enabling them to find work."
