YORKSHIRE accountants figure that Huddersfield is the best place in the county to live, says a survey.

A poll of 1,500 qualified accountants in the region showed Huddersfield was the most desirable place for people in senior positions to settle.

The survey by Yorkshire recruitment firm Stark Brooks also showed Leeds was the employment hotspot for top earners.

Mark Gardiner, regional recruiting manager for Stark Brooks in Leeds, said: "Unsurprisingly, Leeds, closely followed by York, remains the city that has the biggest pull for the key market players, due to the potential financial earnings that firms based in these cities have to offer. These two cities have attracted 113,000 new jobs over the past 20 years.

"This trend means that areas such as Halifax and Bradford will continue to lose out on top talent, as they can't afford to pay such competitive salaries.

"Huddersfield was the clear winner when is comes to settling down in Yorkshire.

"This is for a number of reasons. The geography of the area means there is superb access to West and South Yorkshire and Manchester.

"Yet house prices remain lower than areas such as Harrogate, York and Leeds, meaning you will get much more for your investment."
