A group providing training and volunteering opportunities for young people in Kirklees is set to battle for big money.

Huddersfield-based Community Activator Teams (CATS) is bidding to win the public vote and £50,000 of lottery cash in The People’s Millions TV competition.

The People’s Millions 2013, which takes place on ITV’s evening regional news programme, give six community groups across Yorkshire the chance to win the public vote by saying why they deserve a lottery award.

Each night two groups will make their bid for viewers’ support to take home up to £50,000 – with the public voting by phone to decide who wins the prize.

On Tuesday, November 26, CATS, run by the Communities United Project in Huddersfield, will battle it out with Howden Civic Society’s Howden R-100 Airship History Trail.

If CATS wins the most votes, the group will spend the money providing training and volunteer opportunities for young people and adults in Dewsbury and Batley who are at risk of becoming homeless or unemployed or have poor educational qualifications.

CATS will run a programme of community sports and play-leadership workshops to help young people gain in confidence, motivation and life skills.
