Accident is near Carrgate, not J42
Queueing traffic and road blocked due to accident on M1 in both directions around J41 A650 (Carrgate).
The Air Ambulance is on scene, affecting traffic heading from Barnsley towards Leeds.
The accident is believed to have happened on the Northbound exit slip road.
Initial reports incorrectly suggested that the accident had happened near to J42.
M1 southbound could be closed until 7pm
Here’s the latest info from Highways England:

- Reason Road traffic collision
- Time To Clear The event is expected to clear between 19:00 and 19:15 on 24 August 2016

Accident on M1 Jct42
Reports of M1 Southbound blocked, queueing traffic due to accident around J42 M62 (Lofthouse).
The Air Ambulance is reported to be en-route. Affecting traffic heading from Leeds towards Barnsley.
M62 eastbound traffic
Traffic on the M62 eastbound due to a broken down vehicle removed between J30 A642 (Rothwell) and J29 M1 (Lofthouse).

BREAKING: Barry Sheerman to support Owen Smith
Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman has come out in public support for Owen Smith in the Labour leadership.
In an open letter published on his website, Mr Sheerman wrote today: “Over the years I have come to know Jeremy Corbyn well but he has never shared my views on loyalty to the party and he has a reputation for having a very different attitude to party solidarity.
“I will be voting for Owen Smith and hope you will be able to join me.”
Man wanted on recall to prison
A man with links to Huddersfield is wanted on recall to prison.
Police want to get in touch with Norris Miller, 50.
Anyone who sees him or knows where he is should not approach him and contact police immediately via 999.
M62 traffic eastbound
Problems on the M62 eastbound on the Manchester side this afternoon.
Queueing traffic due to earlier broken down vehicle between junction 19 (Heywood) and junction 20 (Rochdale). Congestion is going back to junction 18.
All lanes have been re-opened but expect delays.
Attack at Batley church
A man suffered head injuries in an assault at a Batley church and had to be treated in hospital.
The victim was attacked by two suspects in the grounds of All Saints Church on Branch Road.
Two people have since been arrested in connection with the attack, while police are keen to speak to any possible eyewitnesses.
Anyone who witnessed the assault is asked to contact PC Simon Reddington at Kirklees CID via 101.
Leeds Festival goers warned of A1 traffic
Leeds Festival goers: There is very heavy traffic on the A1(M) near the Bramham junction due to two lanes being closed earlier.
The lanes were closed due to an accident near junction 44 and is affecting the influx of traffic as people make their way to the festival site.
Knifepoint robbery at Queens Mill Road
A man was robbed at knifepoint on Queens Mill Road in Lockwood last night.
The victim was walking along the road when he was grabbed by two suspects who threw him on the floor.
They demanded cash and took his phone, with one reportedly holding a knife.
One of the suspects is described as Asian, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins, mid to late 20s of a slim build and wearing dark clothing with his face covered.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Andy Clayton at Huddersfield CID via 101.
The incident is of no relation to the nearby Hunter Group fire.
TV actress tipped to replace Jo Cox
A former Coronation Street star and friend of MP Jo Cox is reportedly being tipped to stand as Batley and Spen’s next Labour candidate.
Tracy Brabin, 55, who was born in the area and went to Heckmondwike Grammar, could soon announce her candidacy.
The NEC will shortly be announcing the vacancy and several applicants will be lined up as hopeful candidates.

Serious collision on Godley Lane, Halifax
Two people were hospitalised after a serious road collision in Halifax last night.
It happened on Godley Lane near the junction with Godley Branch Road at 8.55pm, when an Audi S3 Quattro collided with a Ford Fiesta.
A man from the Audi was taken to LGI with serious head injuries, and a woman from the Ford was taken to HRI with a serious arm injury.
Anyone who may have witnessed what happened is urged to contact PC Andrew Muskett at Roads Policing on 101 quoting log number 1780 of 23rd August.
Hunter Group fire: The latest
Here is the latest on the Hunter Group fire in Lockwood.
Fire fighters are battling on and will be there for some weeks, while the company backing onto the site have commended their efforts.
HRI survey results delayed
Results of an official survey on a plan which would close Huddersfield’s A&E have been delayed.
The results of a public consultation on the Right Care Right Time Right Place plan were expected yesterday.
Community rally round to help The Watershed
A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help raise money for The Watershed.
A target of £500 has already been exceeded within hours and raised to £1,000.
Shocking dashcam footage
Another issue with dangerous driving on the M1, again near the Denby Dale junction. Police tweeted this dashcam clip showing a car pulling out of a lay-by, forcing the police car to slam on the brakes.
Hunter Group fire "two metres" from next door company
We’ve spoken this morning to glass firm Novaglaze, whose building backs onto the fire at the Hunter Group site.
Director Gary Smith said that the fire is just “two metres” away and that fire crews have been “excellent” in dealing with the situation.
It seems the inferno is to last a few weeks.
M1
And while on the subject of dangerous driving on the M1, police are looking to get in touch with a BMW driver who collided with a man near the Denby Dale junction (39) before driving off.
The incident happened on the northbound carriage at around 10.20pm on Saturday.
The BMW did not stop and continued north. As a result of the collision a 41-year-old local man was left with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle or anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact PS Adrian Newman on 101 quoting log 1694 of 20 August.
