HUDDERSFIELD cadets are in training as they prepare to battle their contemporaries on sports day.

The competition is being held to mark the 150th anniversary of Yorkshire’s cadet movement.

Twenty-five of Huddersfield’s best will take the trip to Leeds on Saturday to compete against over 1,000 other cadets at athletics, hockey and tug of war championships.

Lance Corporal Kieran Clarke, 16, from Huddersfield ACF detachment, said: “Everyone in our detachment is looking forward to the sports day. It’ll be a great opportunity to meet other cadets from across Yorkshire and the Humber and celebrate such a momentous year.

“I’ve loved every minute of being a cadet and couldn’t think of a better organisation to make new friends, develop skills and enjoy experiences other people my age don’t often get the chance to do.

“We just need to put some serious training in now if we want to bring back some silverware for Huddersfield!”
