A town centre bar wrecked by vandals will re-open this weekend with a new name – and everyone’s invited to join the celebrations.

The Lime Bar, based at the Huddersfield Carnival Centre at 26 Westgate in Huddersfield, was targeted by vandals at the end of June and was left badly damaged.

People were asked to vote for a new name for the venue in a competition run by the centre.

Now it will relaunch on Saturday with the new name SQUARE 1.

Numerous individuals and businesses are helping to get Square 1 ready for the event, which will feature top UK male reggae singer Peter Spence as well as Huddersfield DJs The Original Major, Big Big 45 and Amour Street Team.

Marketing team leader Dominic Pinnock said: “Launch night is an exciting concept, which will emanate a carnival atmosphere, with a little bit of everything for everyone”.

Project leader Fay Macintosh said: “We hope the whole Huddersfield community will come out, not just for the launch but every month.

“This is a not-for-profit organisation and all funds raised will be re-invested into the Huddersfield Caribbean Carnival and other good causes.

SQUARE 1 has developed two new monthly nights to raise funds. The first one will be FLASHBACK – a night featuring a well-known reggae artist with local DJs – which will be held on the last Saturday of every month. The second night will be called FOUNDATION – a night of reggae, soca, RnB, Lovers and Ragga anthems, featuring the best DJs in and outside of Huddersfield.

Call SQUARE 1 on 01484 536542 or 07986 269644, for more information or ask about the benefits of becoming a member.
