A bar at the headquarters for Huddersfield Carnival is to be revamped and renamed.

The Lime Bar, based at the Huddersfield Carnival Centre at 26 Westgate in Huddersfield town centre, was targeted by vandals at the end of June and was left badly damaged.

But the community rallied round and urgent repairs meant it was able to stage the Huddersfield Caribbean Carnival After Party.

Promoter Dominic Pinnock has now voluntarily given his services to the carnival committee to help develop a new corporate image and a six-month event programme.

Initially the bar will continue to open as the Lime Bar until mid September, remaining open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, starting today. Saturday 24th August with Huddersfield’s revival specialists Amour Street Team.

Entry will be free and will continue to be so until the bar is temporarily closed for refurbishment, followed by a glitzy carnival-themed relaunch drawing on local talent as well as nationally acclaimed DJs and artistes.

Dominic said: “The centre is a not for profit organisation with one of its aims to raise funds to be re-invested into the carnival and the local community.

“It is hoped that the community realises this and gives support to events at the centre. The  re-launch will also include a new name which represents the work of Huddersfield Carnival.

“Suggested names to date include The Lemon And Lime and Square One but we would welcome further suggestions from the Huddersfield community.

“Additionally, we intend to develop a membership scheme which will help to raise funds and provide special offers and advantages for members.”

The Huddersfield Carnival Centre is holding a competition to decide on the new name for the Lime Bar.

Entrants can telephone or fill in the a voting slip (available from the Lime) with the suggested name and send to The Lime, 26 Westgate, Huddersfield, HD1 1NU.

A prize of free membership, a commemorative plaque and other goodies will be presented to the winner.
