If last-minute Christmas shopping wasn’t enough to make your head spin then the rides at Huddersfield’s Christmas funfair are sure to.

The fair has returned once again for a week-long run on a site in Cambridge Road, Huddersfield.

Robinson’s Funfair staff have brought their traditional and new rides to town for the festive season.

And on Saturday, the organisers invited Kirklees Council Mayor Clr Martyn Bolt along to officially open the Huddersfield Christmas Fair.

Clr Bolt was keen to get in on the action as he used to work on fun fairs.

He said: “It was about 40 years ago when I worked on fun fairs across Yorkshire.

“It’s great to see traditional family entertainment come to Huddersfield and we hope people come out and support them and enjoy the attractions.

“I even remember as a child going to one at the Queen’s Hall in Leeds.”

Clr Bolt had a go on the dodgems before spinning a waltzer like a pro.

The event features the usual rides and attractions such as dodgems, waltzers and twist rides, as well as children’s rides and the Fun House.

Owner and organiser Stewart Robinson said: “Huddersfield always enjoys its fairs, with the locals looking forward to enjoying the attractions over the holidays.”

And Examiner readers who bought the paper last Wednesday were able to save up to £10 off rides if they cut out the tokens and presented them at the fair.

The fair runs every day (excluding Christmas Day) from midday to 8pm until Saturday December 28.
