CBeebies stars will make the town sparkle at Kirklees biggest Christmas lights switch on.

Hundreds of families are expected at the star-studded free event on Huddersfield’s Piazza on Saturday from 4.45pm, where CBeebies The Rhyme Rocket stars performers First Officer Ditty and Professor Poet will press the button.

Huddersfield revellers have been invited to join in the festivities which mark the town’s countdown to Christmas, which will be hosted by the Pulse1 Roadshow.

The TV pair, along with singers and dancers will take over the Piazza along with Huddersfield’s Town Crier Vic Watson and Huddersfield Town’s popular mascot Terry the Terrier, before the CBeebies pair, also known as Joe Chambers and Andy Crawford, switch the lights on at 6.10pm.

Clr Peter McBride, Cabinet Member for Investment and Regeneration for Kirklees Council, said the event will be better than last year’s, which attracted hundred of families.

“The Christmas Light Switch On, for most people, signals the start of Christmas in Huddersfield”, he said.

“Last year’s switch on was a huge success, drawing more people than ever into the town centre.

“This year will be even better. We’re delighted to be working once again with Kirklees College and the Lawrence Batley Theatre on the event.

“We have an impressive line up of special guests and entertainers this year– there’s something for everyone”.

The following Saturday the lights switch on excitement will move to Dewsbury, which will be presided over by Pulse 1 dj Jacqui Blay.

The festivities will begin at 4.15pm at the Market Place with fun fair rides, a Santa’s grotto, a giant snow globe and fire performers.

Jacqui will lead people up to the big switch on at 5.40pm with music.
