COUNCILLORS will decide tomorrow if a Huddersfield newsagent’s can sell alcohol round-the-clock.

Red Square Mini Market in Fartown has asked Kirklees Council for a 24-hour drinks licence.

Police have objected to the proposal, claiming they found out-of-date and untaxed items at the Bradford Road shop.

Shopkeeper Jaswant Singh Bhullar has applied for permission to sell alcohol 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The council’s licensing panel had been due to decide on the issue on June 20.

But the matter was delayed to allow Kirklees to receive more information about the shop from West Yorkshire Trading Standards.

The licensing panel will meet again at Huddersfield Town Hall from 10am tomorrow.

Red Square Mini Market is currently licensed to sell drink from 8am to 11pm from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 10.30pm on Sunday.

Police visited the shop – listed in documentation to the panel as being A & B Mini Market – in May.

Officers reported a “catalogue of bad management” at the shop.
