A £59,000 spending boost has been approved by councillors.

It will fund a range of work in the Huddersfield area from community events to road and footpath improvements and more grit bins.

The Huddersfield Area Committee approved the spend at this week’s meeting.

Among the backed bids is £34,300 to improve roads, pavements and street lighting in the Crosland Moor and Netherton ward area.

Ward councillors called for funds to be allocated to making improvements after noting complaints.

A further £11,300 was approved to fund improvements to pathways in the Dalton area.

The pathways need improving ahead of the launch of a series of work and walks around the Dalton ward aimed at people with mental health issues.

The money will be used to make surface improvements, carry out drainage work and install signs on the walk routes.

A report says: “The central aim of the overall scheme is to provide signposted trails around the wards targeted towards people with mental health issues who would be involved in the design, interpretation and implementation of the routes.”

NHS funding of £5,000 in staff and volunteer time will be put towards the project.

And councillors on the Area Committee also backed £12,500 towards two Lindley projects – £10,000 will go to the Lindley Community Group, the team behind Lindley Carnival, and £2,500 will go towards a forthcoming community running event.

There will be two runs, one of 10k for over 16s and a 2k run for children between four and 16.

Councillors pledged a further £203 to support the Mount Forum.

A further £900 has been pledged for more grit bins in the Lindley ward.
