In the evening, Brambles becomes an up-beat bar with a good mix of customers of all ages. Last year Brambles won ‘Huddersfield Camra Autumn Pub of the Season’ and last September gained a Cask Marque for the quality of its real ales. The function room is used for the local Weight Watchers’ meetings.

We believe the Royal Oak in Linthwaite is one of the best community pubs in the area.

We have won many awards for our charity work, involving a wide variety of events for all ages such as our Yorkshire Day, bonfire night, pensioners’ Christmas party along with supporting local and national charities. In the past we have raised money and supported charities such as Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Macmillan nurses, The Forget Me Not Children’s Charity and others. Throughout our nine years in Linthwaite, we feel we have made a great difference to our community.

Slaithwaite Conservative Club is Slaithwaite’s community meeting place. The Stumble Inn

The village of Hinchliffe Mill was without a pub when the Shepherd’s Rest closed in 2009.

Some questioned whether it would ever have a pub again. Mood Developments bought the pub and began the long job of refurbishment.

The Stumble Inn started trading on March 10 and has since gone from strength to strength building up a reputation as a family friendly, community pub. It also happens to have a very good food offering, two football teams and two darts teams. The pub has become a hub for the community used by all ages, which is a refreshing change in these harsh times.

Armitage Bridge 'Monkey' Club

The Armitage Bridge Club is a community members club which lies at the heart of village life.

The now famous Monkeyfest has become a top event on the real ale calendar. The club is proud to support local community events and the Huddersfield Town Keep it Up campaign in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. As we are only a small venue, we do not expect to become the Examiner Pub of the Year but 2012 saw us elected by the local Camra branch as Club of the Year, an honour we are very proud of.

The Bridge

The Bridge on Manchester Road is a great, thriving social hub for the community. There’s always something happening, it’s like an 80s fun pub brought into the future.

The Chartist

Customers think this Skelmanthorpe pub is just the best. The landlord visits elderly customers if they haven’t been seen for a day or two. The landlady feeds her customers and gives them lifts home at the end of the night.

She helps complete forms and make phone calls for those who need help. Last year she made Christmas dinner for 21 customers who have no family and would otherwise have been on their own at Christmas.

The Commercial

The George Inn

We feel this Upper Denby inn is a special place - a real, traditional village pub. In August 2008 we re-opened The George Inn, an Admiral Taverns pub, and over the last four years have worked hard to put the heart back into Upper Denby.

At the beginning of November last year we were very pleased to be able to tell the village that we had successfully purchased The George Inn, securing it's future and are very much looking forward to 2013.

The Golden Cock

Stunningly renovated this year, The Golden Cock has been restored to it's former glory as one of West Yorkshire's great pubs. Ricardo and his team provide four wonderful real ales, fantastic wines, food to die for and a really warm and genuine welcome. The locals of Farnley Tyas are delighted with the transformation and visitors are coming from far and wide to enjoy the hospitality we offer. We believe The Golden Cock should be a strong contender for the Huddersfield Examiner's Pub of the Year.

The Grove

The Grove is a local village pub in Skelmanthorpe which has just been refurbished. We thrive on creating a warm, friendly atmosphere which is helped by the log fires and lovely customers.

The bar staff and I are all very friendly and welcoming. The Grove is also a bed and breakfast. The hotel rooms are cosy and I receive many compliments on my full English! I have recently started providing Sunday dinners which are proving to be very popular, as is the wonderful quiz on a Wednesday night. I am a well-liked member of the community and have great support from customers. William Trotter said: “Newly taken over and newly refurbished, The Grove is my local pub and has a great atmosphere, friendly landlady and bar staff. A very, very pleasant place to drink and socialise with friends and there’s always something going on.’’

The Nightingale

Lindley’s Nightingale is an outstanding local family pub that has recently won several awards for its contribution to community service. There is always a warm welcome to everyone here at the Riverhead.

The Sportsman

A fantastic, friendly town centre pub with great beer and atmosphere which really supports Huddersfield brewers. We've won local and national awards which include Camra and English Heritage. We were the National winners for the Pub Design of the Year 2010 and Huddersfield Camra Pub of the Year for two years running in 2011 and 2012. We have live music throughout the month and serve food at weekends.

The Star Inn

The Star Inn in Folly Hall is a multi-award winning, genuine real ale Free House established over 10 years ago.

Our emphasis is keeping the establishment well kept and to serve real ales from all over the country and make sure that it’s a lovely place to be. With a warm, knowledgeable welcome to everyone, we create the lovely atmosphere of a traditional pub. It has been noted that we hold the best beer festivals in the country that attract folk from far and wide. All in all we are lucky to have such lovely customers and a fantastic team.

The Sun

The Sun in Lepton was a failing Enterprise Inns pub which had several temporary managers over the years. After buying the freehold from Enterprise, my husband Carl and I completely gutted and refurbished the Sun and it is now firmly back where it belongs as part of the local community.

The Vulcan

The Vulcan is a great, local pub in the town centre. We have six alternate real ales, cheap beer and drink offers. Our food is great value for money and we have just entered into the 2013 Good Beer Guide. We won Pub of the Summer in 2012 voted by Camra.

We have a variety of beverages from four popular Cask Marque accredited cask ales to coffee, cola and cordial for the kids, all at very reasonable prices.

The White Hart

For over 12 and a half years I have been running the White Hart, Denby Dale, along with my husband Carl. We feel we’ve achieved something that not many other licensees have done in this area. That is, successfully running a Punch Tavern house for well over a decade. Pubs are essential to our communities and that’s why two years ago we decided to expand and bought the freehold of The Sun in Lepton from Enterprise Inns and now that is also a thriving village pub.

Warehouse

The Warehouse has a great student vibe and great prices in the town centre! The venue has something on every night, with lots of variety. Their food is always served quickly, to a high standard and the staff are all friendly. They also serve half price food on Sundays!

The Wills ‘O’ Nats is a warm, friendly pub and restaurant in Meltham with roaring open fires in winter and a large pergola and beer garden in the summer.

The Wills also has a reputation for excellent cask conditioned beers and has been voted into the Good Beer Guide for the last three consecutive years. It’s also won the Pub of the Season title in the summer of 2009 and Pub of the Winter Season 2012. During the summer, the Wills re-invents itself into a music venue by holding five band festivals in the car park starting on the first Saturday in May.

The Farmers Arms

The Farmers Arms in Holmfirth has a good atmosphere, good beer and excellent food. Added to which Danielle and her partner Sam have established and encouraged a real family atmosphere and community spirit. It’s also worth mentioning there are fantastic floral decorations outside the pub in summer.

Marsden Conservative Club

This is where it all happens. It’s also know as the entertainment centre of the north with award winning hosts Eric and Linda Bailey.
