A schoolgirl trio danced their way to success in a talent competition – and presented an important message at the same time.

Grace Hall, Elysha Jackson and Jools Russell, all aged 10 and pupils of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School at Dalton, won their age category in the competition, which was run in conjunction with Ravensknowle Gala at Moldgreen.

The girls set their routine to the chart-hitting song No Money by Galantis and did a freestyle dance including cartwheels and the splits.

The three friends said they did a great deal of work in school about anti-bullying, and it was a subject they felt strongly about. Although they are all lucky enough not to have experienced bullying, they said the words of No Money inspired them to concentrate on the important theme.

The young dancers designed a banner on a bed sheet to emphasise the ‘say no to bullying’ message and they showed this as part of their performance. Their efforts helped them to clinch £30 in prize money, which they have shared between them.

Mrs Georgina Hall, Grace’s mum, said she was really proud of what they had achieved with their dance, which they performed in heavy rain on the day of the gala.

The lyrics for No Money are:

Sorry I ain’t got no money I’m not trying to be funny but I left it all at home today

You can call me what you wanna I ain’t giving you a dollar this time I ain’t gonna run away

You might knock me down, you might knock me down, but I will get back up again

You can call it how you wanna I ain’t giving you a dollar this time I ain’t gonna run away

This time

This time I ain’t gonna run run run run run...

Not this time, not this time

This time I ain’t gonna run, run, run, run

Not this time, not this time

Not this time, not this time (time)

Sorry I ain’t got no money I’m not trying to be funny but I left it all at home today

You can call me what you wanna I ain’t giving you a dollar this time I ain’t gonna run away

You might knock me down, you might knock me down, but I will get back up again

You can call it how you wanna I ain’t giving you a dollar this time I ain’t gonna run away, run away, run away

This time, this time

This time, this time I ain’t gonna run, run, run, run, run, run...

Not this time, not this time

This time I ain’t gonna run, run, run, run

Not this time, not this time

Not this time, not this time

Not this time
