A HUDDERSFIELD DJ has hit the top spot in the iTunes charts with his very first single.

Gledholt-based Macks Wolf, half of urban dance music duo RaOol, reached number one on the World Music chart with vocalist D Wunder.

Their track ‘Meri Rani’ (Set to Blow) stormed to the top of the charts, giving the music newcomers the number one spot in the BBC Asian charts in the process.

The accompanying video to Meri Rani, featuring RaOol mascot, Zeus ‘The Wolf’, has also created its own momentum, generating more than 100,000 views in just seven days.

Following a world exclusive first-play on BBC Radio 1 with Nihal, the duo have found themselves in demand with media from India, Dubai, Australia and have a trip to the USA beckoning.

Macks, 26, who moved to Huddersfield two years ago, said they were over the moon at the success.

He said: “It’s been overwhelming, it was a bit surreal. We didn’t quite believe it at first.”

Macks said D Wunder had discovered him on music website Myspace and they had begun working together.

He explained: “I’ve been DJing since I was 12.

“I was making beats and he came across my page.

“We started working as a production team, producing for unsigned artists.

“Then we realised we were really enjoying the music and we wanted to claim it for ourselves.

“We started working on our own sound in a bid to step out of the shadows.

“The track is with Hindi and English lyrics, it’s a mix of Asian and western music.”

Macks added: “It’s great to get that recognition. We’re unsigned and obviously music is a difficult industry.

“If people can’t see results from what you’re doing they’re unsure as to how good it is, so it’s nice to be able to show them.

“The next step we would like is to get signed.

“We’ve shown we can do it ourselves but we’d love someone to come along and allow us to do it on a bigger scale.”
