A doorman who assaulted a customer outside a Huddersfield nightclub has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Leeds Crown Court heard Mirza Yamin also went for a second man who told him he had captured the initial incident on his mobile phone.

John Boumphrey prosecuting said the trouble began around 3.20am on January 11 after Andrew Lynch was ejected by other door staff at Mavericks in King Street.

He did not want to go and took up a “boxing stance” at which point Yamin became involved and punched him.

Mr Boumphrey said meanwhile a friend of the complainant had filmed some of the incident on his mobile phone and when he told Yamin this the doorman pushed him back some distance.

He then got the friend against a wall and after getting him in a headlock banged his head twice against the wall.

“It was only when others intervened and a colleague of the defendant pulled him away the incident came to an end.”

Richard Gioserano representing Yamin said he realised his situation was serious and that he was there to prevent trouble.

He said Yamin had been a licensed doorman for eight years and could not explain his reactions that night.

Yamin, 36 of Kipling Close, Crosland Moor, Huddersfield admitted assault causing actual bodily harm to Mr Lynch and common assault to his friend. He was sentenced to a total of six months in prison suspended for 12 months with 200 hours unpaid work.
