Young film makers in Huddersfield have taken their films highlighting the issue of climate change to Parliament.

The group of three youngsters from Huddersfield Eco Action Team (HEAT) travelled to Westminster and spoke to Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney to spread their message, after taking part in a national film challenge to document the issue.

The “Close-up on Climate” event was organised by The Climate Coalition, a group of more than 100 organisations representing more than 11 million people across the country dedication to fighting climate change.

The pupils also took part in workshops run by film education charity Into Film.

Mr McCartney was shown HEAT’s film entitled “Extinction”, tackling the rise of the world’s climate.

Chayley Collis coordinator of H.E.A.T, said: “It was great to give young people a voice on this issue which, unless we take urgent action, poses a massive threat to their future.

“The World Bank says that we are on track for a 4 degree global temperature rise by the end of this century, a level so dangerous it has been deemed ‘incompatible with civilization’.

“The films made by the young people will hopefully act as a wake up call to our national and international politicians to treat climate change as the emergency it is.”

More than 60 people across the UK took part in the challenge and called for world leaders to commit to the cause.
